South African icon Nelson Mandela was on Wednesday admitted at the Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg for what his foundation called “routine tests”.

Jonathan: North divided over ACF resolution

THE call by the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, on President Goodluck Jonathan to abandon his presidential bid, yesterday, has divided the organisation with prominent northerners railing against the call.
There were, however, mixed responses from prominent northerners with Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State assuring Nigerians that the North will back the President.

PDP dares INEC over primaries

A FRESH showdown looms in the polity as the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday dared the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, saying it cannot stop it from conducting fresh primaries in some states. The party which has vowed to go ahead with the polls, said: “INEC has no powers to reject the list submitted to it by any political party. It has no such power. We will fix appropriate time to meet to resolve all logistics problems, but we are going ahead with the re_run election.”
The leadership of the party also picked holes with some of the activities of INEC, stressing that the Commission’s task of preparing timetable in the first place for political parties was an unwarranted incursion into the internal activities of PDP and others

Cote d’ Ivoire: ECOWAS delegation to meet Obama, Ban Ki-moon

An ECOWAS’ delegation is expected to meet with U.S. President Barrack Obama and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon this week on the political situation in Cote d’Ivoire.
The high-powered delegation is expected in Washington on Wednesday and in New York on Thursday, a senior diplomatic source disclosed on Monday in New York.
President Goodluck Jonathan who is ECOWAS’ chairman, nominated the team which includes President Ernest Bai Koroma of Sierra Leone, President of ECOWAS Commission, Amb. Victor Gbeho and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Odein Ajumogobia.

Goodluck/Sambo campaign organisation inaugurates office in the UK

Princess  Vivian Anazodo, Deputy Director-General of the Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organisation, said she was confident the PDP would  have a landslide victory in the April elections.
Anazodo made the remarks in London at the inauguration of Goodluck/ Sambo Presidential Campaign office in the UK.
“We are convinced he will have a landslide victory at the polls.
“He has achieved so much, especially in stabilising fuel supply within his short period in the saddle,” she added

Charles Okah Suspect of Abuja Bombing Slumps in Court

One of the suspects in last year’s bomb blasts in Abuja, Charles Okah, on Tuesday, slumped barely five minutes after stepping into the dock to continue his trial before a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Okah and other accused persons, Obi Nwabueze, Edmund Ebiware and Tiemkemfa Osvwo (aka General Gbokos) are being prosecuted by the State Security Services following their alleged involvement in treason and the October 1, 2010 bomb blasts in Abuja.

Why Nwodo Resigned as PDP Chairman

FACED with the prospect of a summary dismissal, Dr. Okwesileze Nwodo, yesterday, resigned his appointment as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
His resignation nonetheless, Dr. Nwodo was referred by the National Executive Committee, NEC, to the party’s Disciplinary Committee for trial for purportedly bringing the party to disrepute through his stumbling intervention into proceedings of the party’s national convention last Thursday.
Nwodo’s resignation letter which was rushed into the NEC meeting, however, derailed already rehearsed plans by enraged party officials to dismiss him from office and subsequently expel him from the party.
