Northern alliance against Jonathan does not exist-Lar

THE pioneer National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Solomon Lar, said yesterday that talks of an impending northern alliance against the Presidential candidate of the party, President Goodluck Jonathan, only exist in the imagination of its protagonists. According to him, those behind the moves have no relevance whatsoever with opinions of the northern electorate.
In a statement he signed yesterday and made available to Vanguard, Lar, who is a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, BoT, reiterated that the North and other regions of the country were solidly behind the candidature of President Jonathan, just as he vowed that the people of this country will massively vote for him in the April 9 polls.
He noted that for sometime now, the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, and Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, have been promoting the idea of a northern consensus candidate amongst them for the April 9 Presidential election.
The statement read in part: “I consider this defeatist attitude as a sign of surrender and admitting that Nigerians have rejected their politics of ethnic and religious bigotry. These same above parties are behind the often repeated insinuation that President Jonathan may not win the presidential election on the first run and may be forced to a re-run.
“These same insinuations were peddled during the concluded presidential primaries where Nigerians spoke out loudest against politics of primordial sentiments.
“I wish to state unequivocally and to reassure Nigerians that all regions, including the North, are solidly behind President Jonathan and will massively vote for him in April polls.”
