Sports Minister, Alhaji Yussuf Suleiman bared his fangs yesterday on some coaches of Team Nigeria for their ineptitude that has seen some athletes lose medals that ordinarily they would have won.
Table Tennis was a glaring example especially in the Women’s Team Event where Egypt came from behind to pip Nigeria 3-2 to win gold. “I don’t want to say things that will demoralize our athletes.
It was purely a case of technical inefficiency from the bench. One on one, our athletes are better than the Egyptians. Anyway, I am going to have meetings with the coaches and their captains to correct these mistakes”, he said. The Minister did not also
spare the athletes. “The players did not do well, either. They did not show hunger and determination. We all saw the Egyptians going the extra mile and got victory they do not deserve. We have to change this attitude”, he cautioned.
