Impressed with the discipline and conduct of Team Nigeria at the on-going All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique, Sports Minister Alhaji Yussuf Suleiman has announced “morale-boosting bonus” to the athletes.
The Minister who has been visiting the athletes and watching their events said that he was impressed with the conduct of the athletes and promised $1,500 and $500 to Team Sports and individual sports respectively each time they triumph over their opponents.
These bonus is outside their official bonuses promised for gold, silver and bronze medals and the Senate President’s bonus of N50,000 for each gold.
“This is a booster to the athletes. Most of the events are in their prelims and to ensure that they qualify, the Minister made the pledges”, Chef de Mission Alhassan Yakmut said. And the athletes welcomed the Minister’s gesture with rapturous applause.
